Xiaoqiu WU
Former Vice President of Renmin University of China

Wu Xiaoqiu, born in February 1959, is a renowned economist and scholar in finance in China. He earned his PhD in economics from Renmin University of China in 1990 and was granted an exceptional promotion as the professor of economics at Renmin University of China in June 1993. From July 2016 to September 2020, Professor Wu served as the Vice President of Renmin University of China. Currently, Professor Wu is the Vice Chairman of Academic Committee of Renmin University of China, the Dean of China Capital Market Research Institute, the Director of the China-US Humanities Exchange Research Center of the Ministry of Education, the First Class Professor of Finance at Renmin University of China, and the Distinguished Professor of "Chang Jiang Scholars Program" launched by Ministry of Education (2006). His major social academic titles are as follows: the Convenor of Disciplinary Review Group of Applied Economics of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the First Deputy Chairman of the National Supervisory Committee for Professional Degrees in Finance, the Deputy Director of the National Supervisory Committee for Finance Teaching (Undergraduate), the Chairman of Higher Education Professional Committee of Chinese Society of Educational Development Strategy, Deputy Director of China Profession-degree Case Advisory Committee, Deputy Chairman of China Modern Financial Society, the Member of National Expert Committee on Ecological Environment Protection, the Standing Director of China Society for Finance and Banking, the Member of Beijing Academic Degrees Committee. Professor Wu is an important pioneer in China's securities theoretical research, securities teaching and teaching material system. On the basis of proposing the "Financial Center Drift Theory", Professor Wu first puts forward a policy proposal in 2001 to build Shanghai into a new global financial center.

 

Professor Wu has published hundreds of papers in Social Sciences in China, Economic Research Journal, Journal of Financial Research, Finance & Trade Economics, Management World, Journal of Renmin University of China and so on. Professor Wu's recent representative publications are as follows: “Key Insights from the Global Financial Crisis” (2009), “Transformation and Rise of China: Exploring the Road to a Financial Power” (2011), “Study on the Regulation Transformation of China Capital Market” (2013), “Stock Market Crisis: History and Logic” (2016), “Reform of Financial Regulation in China:the Realistic Motivation and Theoretical Logic” (2018), “Introduction to Modern Financial System” (2019) , “30 Years of Chinese Capital Market” (2021). English Works include “Chinese Securities Companies: An Analysis of Economic Growth, Financial Structure Transformation, and Future Development” (Wiley,2014), “Internet Finance: Logic and Structure” (McGraw-Hill, 2017) and so on.
